Electives: Music, PE, Art–not really elective!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

The topic about electives didn’t seem to excite our listening audience. I guess that families have it figured out. It still would be fun to hear what other families do with music, PE, art, and technology.

I appreciated Lynn and Cathy calling in with their ideas. It is so important to connect with others. What I didn’t get to mention was an article about homeschoolers in Alaska, I will save that for next week.

During the summer we will also be commenting on general educational news. It helps us all to be informed.

Un-schooling

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I heard they had a great discussion about un-schooling versus traditional homeschooling this week on the Homeschool Companion radio talk show. Randy Fishell, editor of Guide magazine, really gave a good argument for un-schooling. The caller–Cathy, had some good arguments for traditional homeschooling. I haven’t heard how Candy faired.

Graduations for Homeschooler

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Today on the Homeschool Companion we talked about celebrating the academic achievements of our young people. The Pleasant Valley Homeschoolers were with us and they sang a beautiful song–Morning has Broken. Cathy–the mom, shared her experience about their eighth-grade graduation. We will soon have the ability to link to the topic radio program, but for now if you would like to listen to the program you can go to www.lifetalk.net, click on podcasts on the left of your screen and look for Homeschool Companion. I would love to hear how other families are planning their graduations.
