It’s all in a Word: How do you use your words to affirm your child’s learning?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

What do you think? Is it all in a word or words? Is Barak Obama president because of words? Are you the way you are because of words? Do you think in words and then translate them into pictures in your mind or is it the other way around? We had a good discussion yesterday on the Homeschool Companion Radio talk show until we were prematurly cut short by technical difficulties. I look forward to your comments.

Half way through the school year: Where do we stand?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

In spite of the ice storm and technical difficulties, four callers made it through. We wanted to hear from you, our listening audience. Where do we stand? What are some of the topics we should address. Here is what you’d like to see more of . . .

1. Student features, students should send in a MP3 of their singing, story telling, or book review. Limit it to 3 - 5 minutes in length and appropriate for our audience. We will air appropriate material.

2. electives, what do homeschooling families do for PE, Music, and art. And don’t just say “get together with other homeschooling families,” sometimes that isn’t possible.

3. continue addressing curriculum needs, devote the show to a particular subject each week.

4. encourage students to call in with their affirming testemonies about the positive aspects of homeschooling.

There you have it! If you can think of something not listed here please blog or call us on Wednesday at 11:15 EST and give us your thoughts.

Have a great day and I look forward to hearing from you,

Dr. Rose Gamblin

Spirituality: Fusing Home and Church

Monday, January 5th, 2009

These are the points I gleaned from the show about fusing home and church.

1. There needs to be a fit between your family and the church’s dynamics

2. Most pastors would love to be involved in your homeschooling program

3. Take seriously a child’s request to be baptized, even a young child

4. Parents can and should lead their children to Christ, but most pastors would welcome the opportunity to develop a relationship with your child

5. According to Pastor Ted Struntz, spirituality is the essence of who a person is and religiousity is what a person does

What do you think? Do you have any experiences to share concerning your church and your children?

Have a Happy New Year!
